Project: February Project: Food Drive for our Local Pantries- Saturday February 25, 2012
Website: THANK YOU FOR YOUR SIGN UPS! WE WILL BE STAFFING 3 STORES FOR 3 DIFFERENT FOOD PANTRIES!
Start Date: 2012-02-25
End Date: 2012-02-25
Time Commitment: 2 hours (9:00-11:00, 11:00-1:00, 1:00-3:00)
Description: These drives are fun, extremely rewarding and so necessary to help the growing families in need in our community. As the generosity of the holiday's food donations fade, and the shelves at the food pantries become empty again, we know that our area Food Pantries will be struggling come February. Thanks to so many who came forward last month to commit to working at this volunteer opportunity early, we already have 3 stores in place for 3 different Food Pantries! The drive for the Oconomowoc Pantry will be handled by a Girl Scout Troop, the Drive for the Pewaukee Pantry will be handled by the Arrowhead Key Club, and VLC volunteers will staff the Hartland Piggly Wiggly for the Hartland Food Pantry. We will have a SUV in front of a grocery stores with a banner letting people know that we are doing a food drive, and volunteers will pass out fliers letting customers know what kinds of items are on the pantries 'wish list'. Customers will donate groceries on their way out! At the end of 2 hours we guarantee you will be proud of yourself....and proud of the generous community you live in!
Project: March Project- Collection of Baby Items for Healthy Families of Waukesha County - Saturday March 24th
Website: www.healthyfamilieswaukesha.org.
Start Date: 2012-03-24
End Date: 2012-03-24
Time Commitment: 2 hours of time! 9:00-11:00, 11:00-1:00, 1:00-3:00
Description: We Need Your Help on this Project! Can you imagine having to water down formula....or make the few diapers that are left last until payday? Many new parents are faced with challenges such as financial disparity, lack of affordable housing, lack of knowledge of parenting skills, no medical insurance, and limited family support. Alone...except for the support and education that the Healthy Families program provides. The support to become an loving parent. This is the 3rd year we have worked with HF...they do amazing work to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to help moms find school, a job and to be able to be a good parent. The Drive for diapers, formula, baby supplies and gear will be held Saturday March 24th. Volunteers will be passing out 'wish lists of needs' and collecting donations. We presently have volunteers for 2 stores. If you are interested in helping please let us know ASAP and we will consider staffing a 3rd location!
